Initially he was a lawyer, and he left this profession for
journalism, then the world of theater and cinema. Bernard Zimmer is known as
the author of numerous comedies that have been successfully performed at the
Théâtre de l'Atelier and at the Comédie des Champs-Élysées.
B. Zimmer has also been very active in cinema as screenwriter and
dialogist for nearly 28 films shot by the greatest directors between 1932 and
1956.
B. Zimmer married Germaine Schrœder, known for his work as an
artist-bookbinder in Paris.

In 1926, on the advice of Andre Salmon, Zimmer
met Charles Dullin who asked him to make the sets and costumes of The Birds, Aristophanes's play,
adapted by Bernard Zimmer. By the end of the year he was called to military
service, first in Saint Cloud, and then in Mainz in the Rhineland.
