Ludwig Thoma

(21 January 1867 in Oberammergau – 26 August 1921 in Tegernsee)

A German author, publisher and editor, who gained popularity through his partially exaggerated description of everyday Bavarian life.

Der erste August

The First of August, published by Albert Langen in Munich. In this play, Thoma recreates the world of a small Bavarian village and its experience of the mobilization for war.
